This plate has “Bandenkampf” written all over it. It consists of two plates, one atop the other: the SS plate on top can be attributed to a SD unit stationed in Trieste, Italy. The underlying plate is that of a Polizei unit. This Pol plate can be attributed to a SIPO unit. So obviously the SIPO vehicle it was originally on (likely some kind of truck or car) was re-assigned to the SD. Considering the thin lines between the two organizations, this makes perfectly sense. Both forces–SIPO and SD were simultaneously operating in the mountainous regions against partisans, hence the potential relevance of this plate to those types of operations, certainly holocaust related. A rare plate! COA accompanies.
