(cp) Japanese Combat Grouping, Flag and Helmet
This is a battle damaged Japanese helmet (size marked small), with accompanying flame-thrower damaged prayer flag. This is one of the more elaborately marked flags I’ve seen, with literally dozens of well-wishes to the bearer. The flag shows burn marks, which correspond to one area when it is folded — the way it was carried by the soldier. The individual who supplied this grouping for listing obtained the items from a long-time Long Island collection. The collector reportedly obtained the items from the veteran (name unrecorded) who brought the items back as souvenirs of Guadalcanal. A superb grouping with the scars of hard fighting. COA accompanies.
