SOLD (wp) Identified Waffen-SS M40 Helmet, KIA
This is a killer example of a combat used Waffen SS M40 helmet, ET64, showing some battle damage and likely was taken from the dead soldier himself. The overall condition is worn – salty, with heavy service use. There is also blood corrosion to the paint and to the inner dome of the helmet. It is a classic ET single decal, and the name ‘J Bartl’ is nicely inscribed in the rear and also in the liner where it says ‘J Bartl, SS-Mann’. A records search by Westmoreland research yielded the owner’s file (on DVD, included) and photo. The Collector, now deceased, was meticulous about collecting items that could be research and potentially identified. This is one of those pieces that tells a very interesting story. (He may have posted it on forums in past years, in which case the information on how he obtained it, now lost, may be available there). Overall a virtual War Trophy and and iconic ET SS helmet as well. COA accompanies.
