This is simply one of the finest earlier  “tellerform” SS officer visors I’ve seen in a while. The characteristics include higher quality tricot,  in combination with top quality original velvet that is unmistakably the correct materials and style for this type of cap. The peak is leather and shows fine age patina and crazing.  The piping is perfectly rendered and correct. The insignia are original, replaced, as is often the case.  The name on the name tag inside the celluloid know says ‘Adolf Ax.’ While I have not researched any archival examples of Ax’s signature, my observation it is correctly fountain pen rendered in sutterlin style on on paper, which itself is old and has faded on the portion that sticks out from the celluloid. The celluloid shield itself is complete with some minor cracking. It covers the Clemens Wagner contractor logo for “Herm. Werkmeister Detmold.” This is a real manufacturer.  Looking behind the sweatband one can see the folds are correct and in the correct direction – and unmolested. Remnants of the gumi brow cushion are found in the front area. Overall a stunning example of a high quality ‘field’ style cap from the SS-VT period, with potential history. COA companies
