Fine, Minty Heer Tropical Cap
This cap is essentially unissued, but shows excellent age toning patina and age crackling to the coated fabric sweatband. The body is greenish tropical feldgrau cotton duck, and the interior is a thiner red cotton lining with contractor RBNr markings and 1943 date. This date puts it at likely too late for DAK issue, as by 1943 their supplies were blocked and they were surrendering everywhere by then. The look and feel of the cap are classic. If issued it would have possibly been worn in the Sicily / Italy campaigns, as well as the Caucasus. The eagle is correctly hand applied and the cockade is machined. The soutache is factory applied, commensurate with methods of other examples, the ends tucked between the layers of material behind the sweatband. Pictures attempt to show this. In hand, the age-toning and original feel are very evident in this cool hat. COA accompanies purchase.
